In the context of the project that Fundación Huésped is currently undertaking, aimed at promoting social participation in the health matters of transgender individuals and sex workers, strengthening their advocacy skills and intervention spaces to shape Universal Health Coverage policies, the first Witness Seminar on the Gender Identity Law was held on November 3rd in Argentina, marking its 11th anniversary since enactment.
Twenty-two trans activists, who played a key role in the design and discussion of the law in Congress, were present. Young activists also participated, providing testimony on the impact of the law on their lives. Additionally, political and legal figures, influential in the formulation and approval of the law, provided their testimonies in this Witness Seminar.
Their experiences and insights will be utilized throughout the project, both to encourage other organizations to advocate for similar laws in their countries and to continue strengthening health access through social participation and the advancement of human rights in Argentina and the region as a whole.
